Yung-Hsien Wu was born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1974. He received the B. S. degree in electrical engineering from National Tsing Hua University (NTHU-國立清華大學), Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 1996, and the Ph. D. degree in electronics engineering from National Chiao Tung University (NCTU-國立交通大學), Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 2000. The subject of his Ph. D. dissertation was "Epitaxial SiGe Alloy Growth and Its Applications to Device".

In 2000, he joined ProMOS Technologies under the Defense Industry Reserve Duty System (DIRS, 國防工業訓儲制度) where he was engaged in advanced process development and assessment in Diffusion Department with major focus on 140/120 nm 256M DDR DRAM and 180 nm Flash memory. From 2000-2003, he was with the furnace and dielectric-CVD section and responsible for process development, excursion prevention, yield enhancement, and integration of newly developed process into incumbent product. In addition, he also led 120 nm DRAM and 180 nm Flash memory project in Diffusion Department by organizing and allocating all the resources and pondering the methods to overcome difficulties. Since the end of 2003, he was with Product Development Department where he was involved in the design debug of 110 nm 512M DDR2 DRAM products and the introduction of DDR2 product into mass production. He has been granted several patents from Taiwan and other countries in his professional field in ProMOS Technologies. He earned the individual IP award (最佳個人智權獎) in 2002 and 2003 for abundant contribution in patent proposal.

In 2005, he joined the Department of Engineering and System Science (ESS Department, 工程與系統科學系), NTHU, as an Assistant Professor. He was promoted to Associate Professor and Professor in 2009 and 2012 respectively. He was the recipient of the Young Faculty Research Award (新進人員研究獎) of NTHU in 2010. He was also bestowed the College-level Excellent Teaching Award (院傑出教學獎) in 2009 and 2014, University-level Excellent Teaching Award (校傑出教學獎) in 2011, 2014 and 2018, College-level Outstanding Mentor Award (院傑出導師獎) and University-level Outstanding Mentor Award (校傑出導師獎) in 2011. In 2012, he was awarded "Outstanding Young Scholar Research Grant" (科技部優秀年輕學者計畫) by National Science Council. In the same year, during Jun. to Sept., he was a visiting professor in Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre (IMEC), Belgium (比利時IMEC訪問教授) where he involved in the development of next-generation non-volatile memory technology. In 2015, he was conferred with the title of NTHU Distinguished Professor (清華大學特聘教授for his outstanding contribution in teaching and mentoring young talents. In 2016, he was awarded Lifetime Achievement Award (國際傑出發明家發明終身成就獎) for outstanding achievement in the invention. In 2019, he was awarded "Outstanding Young Scholar Research Grant" (科技部優秀年輕學者計畫) for the second time by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). He is the recipient of Excellent Electrical Engineer Professor Award in 2021 by Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering (中國電機工程學會傑出電機工程教授獎). In addition, he was bestowed Excellent Project Award (優良計畫獎) by Atomic Energy Council (原子能委員會) in 2022 and 2023. Currently, he is an IET Fellow (Institution of Engineering and Technology, 國際工程技術學會會士) and IEEE Senior member (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, 國際電機與電子工程師學會資深會員) and Academician of Asia Pacific Academy of Materials (亞太材料學院院士).

His recent research interests include novel materials and innovative structures that empower next-generation ferroelectric memory devices and VLSI technologies. He has published more than 120 SCI papers (including 5 papers in high-impact factor journal-ACS Appl. Mater. Interfaces with IF>10), several prestigious conference papers (including 2015 IEDM,  2017 and 2018, 2020 Symp. VLSI Technology, the world's topmost forum for microelectronic device community), 42 patents (Taiwan, US, German, Korea, China, 台灣 美國, 德國, 韓國, 中國專利) and 1 book chapter. His students also won the national-wide Technology Scholarship from CTCI Foundation (中技社科技獎學金) in 5 consecutive years (2018-2022), Semiconductor Award from TSIA (台灣半導體產業協會半導體獎) in 2019/2020/2023, College Student Research Creativity Award from the MOST (科技部大專學生研究創作獎) in 2019, TSMC PhD student fellowship (台積電博士獎學金) and Scholarship for Outstanding PhD Students from the MOST (科技部培育優秀博士生獎學金), both in 2020.
